At the time of viewing the car it didn't look too bad at all, Sport 160 Victory wheels, hardtop, no accident damage or history:
But it was (not so cleverly) hiding a car in poor cosmetic condition, ideal for this project, not ideal for any poor unsuspecting first time Elise buyers:
Not too bad fron a distance under the seized front clam:
But up close it was another story, plenty of work to be done but no problem since all consumables were to be replaced.
Note the 'DieselFinder' bargain tyres strangely combined with a very expensive carbon fibre induction kit:
Back end now conveniently lightweight.
With the strip down almost complete there was a long break in the project for the design of the K20 conversion kit - cue months of design, prototyping and endless grazed knuckles.
Engine trial fitted more times than we can remember..
A milestone picture:
In the meantime, the suspension parts, brakes and consumables were recieving a makeover and rebuild, the first of many powder coating trips:
Fitted with Eliseparts ali-belled discs, Nitron 1 Way adjustable suspension kit with Eibach springs.
All new Powerflex polyurethane bushes, fasteners, balljoints, wheel bearings, track rod ends, reconditioned steering rack.
